In the last eight hundred years, throughout the different European territories, a legend took place about a secret school where witches and wizards were taught the “fornan fróðleik” or ‘ancient arts’. These were also called the “ókunnuga fræði” or ‘the unknown science’, referring to Magic.

The history of the school spread throughout Europe, and to this day it is considered that it seems to be found in various places on earth, and it is said that women and men alike have been taught there. In Germany the school was called ‘Scholomance’, in Romania it was called ‘Solomonarie’, in Spain it was called Salamanca, and the Icelanders attributed to it the generic name of ‘Svartiskóli’ or black school. Some accounts place it in an ancient castle lost among thick forests in some distant terroir, other sources mention that it may in fact have been found in the cathedral of Skálholt in Iceland, at the University of Wittenberg in Germany or even at the Sorbonne in Paris.

According to Icelandic folklore, witches rode or flew on crooked rods or spirit mounts known as “gandreið” to visit the schoolmaster, an ancient spirit who would instruct them in occult knowledge. This teacher was given different names, in some cases he was called “sá eineygði” ‘he who has only one eye’, and because of this many associated him with Óðinn. Others referred to him as “andskoti”, a word that can be translated as ‘nemesis’, but in its most literal sense means ‘he who shoots against’, which is why he has been associated in turn with Loki, since he forged the death of the god Baldr by means of a mistletoe arrow.

With the passage of time, the magical current of the svartiskóli reached the southern territories, settling mainly in Argentina and Chile, where points of contact were established with the ancient spirit, which was once also called “sá gamli” ‘the old man’. In the southern territories the master instructed the occult knowledge in caves and subway places which received the name of ‘caves of the Salamanca’, there his apprentices received their initiations and empowerments in a secret way.

Currently, the spiritual current of the school continues latent, and has been activated with more strength, where their apprentices receive the knowledge of the different southern and boreal magical arts, where the study of the ancient grimoire, elemental magic, the svartkonstböcker or books of black art, runes, the connection of the spirits, the flight of the soul and the change of form have been part of the main teachings.
